Jay is senior vice president, Production, HBO Films and Mini-Series, for Home Box Office, responsible for overseeing the physical production of all films, theatrical and for the network, as well as miniseries under the HBO Films banner. He was named to this position in March 2004.       Roewe has overseen such acclaimed productions as the multiple Emmy® nominated “John Adams” and Golden Globe-winner “Angels in America,” the 2003 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winner “Elephant,” the Sundance Film Festival award winners “American Splendor,” “Real Women Have Curves” and “Maria Full of Grace”, and most recently, the acclaimed “Generation Kill”.

His area also oversaw the Emmy® winning and nominated productions of “Recount”, “Warm Springs, “Something the Lord Made,” “The Gathering Storm,” “Truman,” “Don King: Only in America” and “Indictment: The McMartin Trial.”  HBO Films have won the Made-for Television Movie Emmy® Award every year but two in the last fourteen years.  From 1987 to 1994, Roewe worked on a number of feature films and television programs in a producing capacity.  His film credits include “Madonna: Truth or Dare” and “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare.”  His television credits include the “Beverly Hills 90210” pilot and the HBO Original Programming specials “Billy Crystal-Midnight Train to Moscow” in 1989 and “Billy Joel-Live in Leningrad” in 1987.

Jay started playing piano at the age of 8 years old when his mother sat down and taught him, then learned trombone at the age of 10. He performed in school and church choirs, concert bands, marching bands and rock bands though high school, which also included touring the U.S. and Europe. Studying film and television business in college he continued his musical studies at Boston University. After graduating he played in a punk band around Boston during the early 80s.

Upon arriving in LA in 1984 he began jamming with garage bands and continuing his film career. This included producing award winning music videos for musicians ranging from Motley Crue to Bon Jovi from 1984 to 1987. Madonna's docu-feature Truth or Dare was produced by Roewe in 1991 and truly took advantage of his love for music and film.  Allowing for more music activities, he co-wrote Hollywood Swing with Steve Mercer, which was placed on the television show Highlander.

Prior to working in films, Roewe produced commercials and music videos from 1985 to 1989 at Propaganda Films.  Among the directors he worked with were David Fincher and Wayne Isham.  In the early 1980's he was a video cameraman, director and producer for Multivision, a video production company in Boston.

Roewe is a member of the Director’s Guild of America, the Producer’s Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.  He sits on the Board of Overseers for Boston University as well as the Board of Advisors to the School of Communication at Boston University.  Roewe holds a BS degree in Television from Boston University.  He is also an accomplished musician.

Roewe studied keyboards and music theory for many years with Cat Cohen and has hosted several of Cat’s song structure workshops.  Jay co-wrote “Candy’s Song” with Cat, which Jay performed in the HBO Film The Rat Pack.
