J.D. is a very talented uncompromising songwriter and performer in the tradition of the good old days of the original country western and rockabilly music of Jimmie Rodgers, Doc Watson, Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner, Buck Owens, The Everly Brothers, and the Flying Burrito Brothers mixed in with touches of psychedelic 60s and ironic novelty wit and humor. His songs describe the plights and pitfalls of cowboys, outlaws, hoboes, alcoholics and other rural characters with their human frailties and shortcomings intact. Mixing in classic standards in the genre with his own material, he can embody the past as well as the present in an effortless, yet timeless manner.
Using his acoustic guitar and harmonica King captures a crowd with his "sweet country honey vocals" and "force-to-be-reckoned-with guitar picking". Reaching into his bag of songs, J.D. keeps his audience tuned-in and entertained with hand picked standards and fresh signatures from his own pen.
King has studied private songwriting and music theory lessons with Cat Cohen and continues to consult with Cat before recording his songs.
